There is nothing like going to a friends house, that you haven't been to yet, and you aren't sure if it is really theirs either because you can't find the number on the house or something about isn't distinguished well enough to really know (despite how well of directions they gave), but you knock anyway hoping it is still them- and it is in fact not them! I hate awkward moments, and really try to avoid them, especially ones like this.
So hopefully to eliminate awkwardness for others I have always liked to make "Welcome" signs, especially ones that has our name on it, so that people can really know it is our place.
This is the first welcome sign we had in our place back in AZ:
Living in the "trailer trash" sort of area that we were in, it was kinda fun having access to a lot of random....well pretty much "crap!" I put this sign together from a random piece of wood and a piece of tin that I found near the house. I just nailed the wood to the tin and then coiled a wire around a pencil and then nailed this as well to the tin to give it something to hang on. Then I painted it- (sorry you can't see "to the" under the "welcome" part). It has a nice rustic look- but because I made it out of crap it didn't stay together super well and we just left in AZ when we moved.
So here is our most recent welcome sign. I found all the pieces you see here at D.I. (a lovely local thrift store), for a lovely total of $5 (including the two signs, bird houses, vine, hay broom, and hook to hold the sign), and they looked like this when I got them, so I then painted on the signs as you see below...
I added the vines to give it a more outdoor fun garden look to it. We had it in this way for all of spring and summer time, and then I just recently changed it up a little to match the season as seen below....
Here I took out the vines and bird houses and added fake poinsettia flowers, a little mini tree we got from a while back, red bows, and two silver snowflake ornaments that go with our ornament set on our tree that we got from a while back as well. The fun trick to all this is I just used random things that I already had on hand and had saved over time, so I didn't have to spend an extra dime than the original amount at the thrift store.
Another fun bonus I just recently realized is that painting it green gave it a nice flexible touch to it- green works great for the spring and summer months with flowers and things, and then also goes well for Christmas time too, so we'll prob keep this one up for a good while...except that when we move soon we'll have to think of a new and different accommodation to still use it (I'll update to how that turns out...)
Anyway, hope that you have a great day and feel "Welcome" wherever you go! Till next time.....
